Course Description

OBS501&502Obst.& Gyn I&2

Description:

    The course enables students to demonstrate knowledge about the basic and clinical sciences related to obstetrics and gynecology. Also, it allows the  graduates to practice the obtained knowledge during their work  dealing with obstetrics and gynecology disorders.furthermore it enriches the expertise needed with with obstetrics & gynecologic emergency effectively and ethically.  The physician should conduct the attitude of quality assurance in the health care and family planning systems and transfer all these medical contexts to the patients and community.

Course Contents:

First Semester

1-Obstetrics:

-Normal and Abnormal pregnancy.

-Normal and Abnormal labor.

-Perinatal problems.

-Normal and abnormal puerperium.

-Operative obstetrics including induction of labor and abortion.

-Ultrasound in obstetrics.

-Maternal and perinatal mortality.

Second Semester:

2-Gynecology:

- Anatomy and development of the female genital tract.

-Reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

-Reproductive tract infections.

-Displacements, traumatic lesions, and urogynecology.

-Uterine fibroids.

-Endometriosis.

-Gynecologic oncology.

-Contraception and family planning.

-Breast and the gynecologist.

-Imaging in gynecology.

-Operative gynecology, including endoscopy.

Learning Methods:

A) General lectures

B) Clinical studies, clinical rounds, tutorials and seminars

Attendance Criteria:

Students must attend at least 70 % of the theoretical lectures and clinical rounds to sit for the final exam.

Assessment methods:

   Formative & Summative exams

- Written exams: short questions, long questions, case histories, MCQs

- Oral exams

- Clinical exams: short cases, long cases.

Markdistribution:
           A total of 100 Marks distributed as follows:

30%  Year Activity including end of round exam at Kasr El Ainy Hospital

 40% End of year Written exam.

 30% End of year oral & clinical Exams.

Basic Materials:

- Department books available for students, at the faculty bookshop.

- Overhead projections, slides and computer presentations used during teaching.
