Course Description


PCL303&304 Pharmacology I&II

 

Description:

It aims at providing knowledge about commonly used groups of drugs affecting different body systems & their implications in therapy of diseases & health promotion. It enables students to understand the safe use of drugs as regards adverse effects, contraindications & drug interactions. It allows students to have enough skills & attitude towards selection & use of drugs on rational bases.

First Semester (Pharmacology I.Codes 303):

1.General pharmacology

2.Autonomic nervous system

3.Ocular pharmacology

4.Skeletal muscle relaxants

5.Autacoids

6.Respiration

7.renal pharmacology

8.Cardio-vascular pharmacology

9.Blood & blood forming organs

Second  Semester (Pharmacology II Codes 304:


 

1.Psycho-neuro pharmacology

2.Hormones & their antagonists

3.GIT             

4.Chemotherapy & local antiseptics

5.Drug abuse

6.Drug interactions

7.Chelating agents

8.Vitamins & food supplements

9.Immuno-pharmacology

10.Pharmaco-economics

11.Pharmacogenetics

Teaching Methods

1.Lectures (120 hours = 4 lectures/week for 30 weeks)

2.Practical sections (60 hours = 2 hours/week for 30 weeks)

 

Attendance Criteria:

The minimal acceptable attendance is 75%. Students need to attend at least 60% in order to set for the final examination.

 

Examination Description:

Formative & Summative exams

- Written, case study & oral for assessment of knowledge and understanding

- Practical for assessment of practical skills

- Research for training the student how to get medical information from library and internet websites and how to organize and present knowledge.

 

Mark Distribution:

 A total of 300 marks equally distributed between the two semesters as follows:

-          30% Year Activity

-          40% Written End-Term Exam

-          30 % Practical & Oral End-Term Exam

- Department books available for students, at the faculty

- Practical books

- Overhead projections, slides and computer presentations used during teaching.
